SYMPTOMS
========

When you try to access train controls in Microsoft Train Simulator, your mouse
pointer may become sluggish, unresponsive, or flicker on your screen.

CAUSE
=====

This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

- Your video adapter drivers are outdated.

- Your sound card drivers are outdated.

- You are not using the latest version of DirectX.

- You have not installed the most recent drivers for your VIA Technologies
  chipset motherboard.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, use the following method.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following
steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product
documentation to complete these steps.

Update Your Video Adapter Driver and Your Sound Card Driver:

To identify the manufacturer and the model of your video adapter and your sound
card, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click
  System.

2. On a Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows
  Millennium Edition (Me)-based system, click the Device Manager tab.

  On a Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP-based system, click the
  Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

3. Expand Display Adapters, note the manufacturer and the model of your video
  adapter, and then click OK.

4. Expand "Sound video, and game controllers", note the manufacturer and model
  of your sound card, and then click OK.

5. Close all open windows.

Download and Install the Latest Version of DirectX:

For information about how to download and install the latest version of DirectX,
visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Install the Most Recent 4in1 Drivers for Your VIA Technologies Chipset Motherboard:

NOTE: This step applies only if an AMD processor and an applicable VIA
Technologies chipset motherboard are installed in your computer.

To obtain and install 4in1 drivers, visit the following VIA Technologies Web
site:

  http://www.viatech.com

IMPORTANT: Contact your hardware manufacturer before you install the latest VIA
Technologies 4in1 driver on your computer or make any modifications to the basic
input/output system settings on your computer.
