This article describes how to configure Macintosh OS X to use your MSN Internet
Access account. Using a Network PPP connection.

The minimum requirements for connecting to MSN Internet Access are as follows:

- Macintosh OS 9.x

- A paying MSN Internet Access account

- A modem with the minimum baud rate of 28.8 Kbps

- Internet Explorer 5.x

- Outlook Express 5.0.4

To obtain the local dial-up numbers for your area, follow the instructions on the
following MSN Web site:https://rac.msn.com/popcheck/To configure an Internet
connection in Macintosh OS X

1. On the Apple menu, select System Preferences.

2. Under the heading Internet and Network, click Network.

3. After Location:, select New Location.

4. Type a name for your new location and click OK. (Recommended name: MSN
  Internet Access)

5. After Show:, select Active Network Ports.

6. Drag Internal Modem to the top of the Port Configurations list.

7. After Show:, select Internal Modem.

8. Click the TCP/IP tab.

9. After Configure, select Using PPP.

10. Click the PPP tab.

11. Enter a name for the Service Provider:.
  (Recommended name: MSN Internet Access)

12. Enter a local access number for the Telephone Number:.
  Note: You may also choose to enter an additional access number for the
  Alternate Number: Please choose your access numbers carefully; you will not
  be reimbursed for telephone charges incurred while connected to MSN Internet
  Access.

13. Type your MSN email address for the Account Name box as
  MSN/Member_ID@msn.com (example: MSN/msnuser@msn.com).

14. If you do not wish to enter your password each time you sign into MSN, enter
  your password and select the Save password box.

15. Click PPP Options.

16. Clear the Disconnect if idle for 15 minutes box.

17. Click OK, click the Modem tab, and select the Show modem status in menu bar
  box.

To connect to the MSN network using your configured Internet Connection

1. On the Finder menu bar, click the Telephone Handset icon.

2. Click Connect or Open Internet Connect.

3. If you choose to connect through Internet Connect, click Connect once the
  window is open.

To disconnect from the MSN network

1. On the Finder menu bar, click the Telephone Handset icon.

2. Click Disconnect.
