SUMMARY
=======

To use Microsoft MapPoint 2002, the recommended system is Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional on a computer with a Pentium III processor and 128 megabytes (MB)
of random access memory (RAM). This article describes the minimum system
requirements to run Microsoft MapPoint 2002.

The minimum system requirements include:

- Operating System: Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft
  Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6
  or later, or Microsoft Windows 2000 or later. On computers running Windows NT
  4.0 with Service Pack 6, the version of Internet Explorer must be upgraded to
  at least 4.01 with Service Pack 1.

- RAM: MapPoint 2002 requires 64 MB of RAM to run optimally. RAM requirements
  assume default Windows installations. Running additional utilities or
  programs may require additional RAM.

- Storage requirements: Hard-disk space requirements vary depending on
  configuration.

  285 to 330 MB of available hard-disk space is required for the typical
  configuration of MapPoint 2002.

  910 to 975 MB of available hard-disk space is required for the full
  configuration of MapPoint 2002.

  Customers without Windows 2000 or later, Windows Me, or Office 2000 SR1 or
  later will require an extra 50 MB of hard-disk space for System Files Update.

- A CD-ROM drive is required for installation.

- Super VGA (800x600) or higher-resolution monitor.

- 256 colors or more required.

- Pointing device: Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible
  pointing device.

- Processor Pentium 133 MHz or higher processor.

Additional Requirements for Specific Features
---------------------------------------------

Some MapPoint 2002 features have additional requirements:

- Territories: 128 MB of RAM is recommended for optimal Territories
  performance.

- MapPoint Microsoft ActiveX Control: The MapPoint ActiveX control requires
  Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0.

- E-mail and Internet: Microsoft Exchange Server, Internet SMTP/POP3, IMAP4, or
  other MAPI-compliant messaging software is required to use send a map as
  attachment. Microsoft Outlook 2000 or later is required to send a map as
  picture.

- Some Internet functionality may require Internet access via a 14.4kbs or
  greater modem or a high-speed connection, and payment of a separate fee to a
  service provider. Local charges may apply.

- Global Positioning System (GPS): GPS functionality requires a GPS device that
  supports NMEA 2.0 or later.

- Microsoft Office Integration: Integrating data into Microsoft Office programs
  requires Office 97 or later versions of Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel,
  Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft
  Publisher, or Microsoft Word. Integrating data from Office programs requires
  version 97 or later of Access, Excel and Outlook, or Microsoft SQL Server 6.5
  or later. The add-in for Microsoft Office requires Microsoft Excel 2000 or
  later, Outlook 2000 or later, PowerPoint 2000 or later, Word 2000 or later,
  Microsoft Visio version 2002, or Publisher version 2002.

- Pocket Streets: Pocket Streets can be installed on Pocket PCs, palm-Sized PCs
  running Windows CE 2.11 or later, and HPCs running Windows CE 2.0 or later.
  ActiveSync 3.1 is required for installation.
