SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to start MechWarrior 4, the MechWarrior Vengeance splash screen
appears, then a black MechWarrior Vengeance window appears, and then the
computer stops responding (hangs).

CAUSE
=====

This issue can occur when the colors settings in the Display Properties dialog
box are set too low.

MechWarrior 4 requires a color depth setting of 16-bit or greater.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, set the color depth to 16-bit or greater. To do this,
follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. In Control Panel, double-click Display.

3. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.

4. In the Colors list, click "High Color (16 bit)" or greater.

5. Click Apply.

  The following message appears:

  The settings you have chosen may cause some programs to operate
  improperly if you do not restart your computer now.
  Would you like to:

   - Restart the computer with the new color settings?

   - Apply the new color settings without restarting?

6. Click "Apply the new color settings without restarting?", click OK, and then
  click OK in the Display Properties dialog box.

7. Restart the computer.
