SYMPTOMS
========

When the Internet Mail Service starts, an unexpected Dr. Watson error may
occur.

If the proper Microsoft Windows NT and Exchange Server symbols are installed, you
see a debug call stack that is similar to the following:

CAUSE
=====

This problem can occur because the Internet Mail Service stops responding if the
X.400 proxy address is missing from the Internet Mail Service Administrator
mailbox.

WORKAROUND
==========

To work around this problem, make sure that the Administrator mailbox has an
X.400 proxy address on the E-mail Address tab.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server
version 5.5.
