This article describes some general steps you can use in Microsoft Combat Flight
Simulator 2 to troubleshoot performance issues, such as:

- Distorted audio playback
- Intermittent playback of video clips
- Slow video frame rates

To troubleshoot poor performance in Combat Flight Simulator 2, use the following
methods in the order in which they appear. After you use each method, test to
determine whether the issue is resolved.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps may be
different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product
documentation to complete these steps.

Quit All Other Running Programs
-------------------------------

To quit all other programs that are running on your computer before you play
Combat Flight Simulator 2:

1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE. The Close Program dialog box is displayed.

2. Click any program except Explorer or Systray, which are components of
  Microsoft Windows, and then click End Task.

  If you receive a message stating that the program is busy or not responding,
  click End Task again.

3. Repeat step 2 until you quit all unnecessary tasks.

NOTE: The more system resources that are available for the game to use, the
better the game can perform.

Change Your View Mode to Cockpit View
-------------------------------------

To change your view mode to Cockpit view:

1. Press ALT to display the menu.

2. On the Views menu, point to View Mode, and then click Cockpit.

  NOTE: The Virtual Cockpit and the Spot Plane view modes require more resources
  than the Cockpit view mode.

3. In Cockpit view mode, you can press F3 to cycle between the following Forward
  views:

   - Full (Maximize)
   - Heads Up Display (HUD)
   - Panel

NOTE: The Full view is the best view for performance, followed by the HUD view.

Adjust Sound in the Game
------------------------

To adjust sound in the game:

1. While in flight, press ALT, click Options, and then click Settings.

  -or-

  On the startup screen, click Settings.

2. Under "Sound volume", move the sliders to adjust each type of sound.

  NOTE: To turn off a type of sound, move the slider all the way to the left
  (the zero setting).

3. Click OK.

NOTE: To turn off all sounds in the game, press Q.

Turn Off the Tactical Display
-----------------------------

The Tactical Display, which may only help in non-combat situations, lets you keep
track of both friendly and enemy aircraft, ships, or vehicles. To turn on or
turn off the tactical display, press SHIFT+T.
