SUMMARY
=======

This article describes how to uninstall and reinstall audio and video codecs in
Microsoft Windows 2000.

When you install Windows 2000, audio and video codecs are not installed by
default. To reinstall the codecs, you must first remove any codecs that are
installed on the computer, and then reinstall Windows Media Player.

NOTE: You must also reinstall any programs that install their own codecs.

To uninstall specific audio and video codecs, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click "Sounds and Multimedia".

3. Click the Hardware tab.

4. To uninstall an audio codec, double-click Audio Codecs, click the Properties
  tab, click the codec that you want to uninstall, and then click Remove.

5. To uninstall a video codec, double-click Video Codecs, click the Properties
  tab, click the codec that you want to uninstall, and then click Remove.
