SYMPTOMS
========

When you play Microsoft Crimson Skies, you may experience the following symptoms
with sounds in the game:

- Sounds may not be played.

- Sounds may be played quietly.

- Sounds may be distorted.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions are true:

- The sound driver for your sound card is outdated.

- Your sound card does not support the necessary hardware features that you
  need to play sounds in the game.

- The game is not properly configured to play sounds.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order in which they are
presented.

Check Speakers Connections and Volume
-------------------------------------

Make sure that you connect your speakers correctly to your computer and turn up
the volume on the speakers and in Microsoft Windows.

Configure the Sound Settings in the Game
----------------------------------------

To configure the sound settings in the game:

1. On the Crimson Skies startup screen, click Preferences.

2. Click Audio.

3. Click to select the In-Game Music check box.

4. Move each of the following volume sliders to the level that you want:

   - Effects Volume
   - Music Volume
   - Voice Volume

5. In the Sound Quality box, click Low.

6. Click Accept Changes, and then click Return To Main Menu.

Verify That the ADPCM Codec Is Installed Correctly
--------------------------------------------------

To verify that the ADPCM codec is installed correctly, follow these steps:

1. Insert the Microsoft Windows installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
  drive.

2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

4. Click the Windows Setup tab.

5. In the Components box, click Multimedia, and then click Details.

6. In the Component box, verify that the check box next to Audio Compression is
  selected.

7. Click OK, and then click OK again.

8. Close Control Panel.

Update the Sound Driver for Your Sound Card
