SYMPTOMS
========
When you play Microsoft Midtown Madness 2, you may experience one or more of the
following symptoms:
- Sounds may not be played.
- Sounds may play quietly.
- Sounds may play incorrectly.
CAUSE
=====
This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions is true:
- The sound driver for your sound card is outdated.
- Your sound card does not support the necessary hardware features that you
need to play sounds in the game.
- The game is not configured properly to play sounds.
RESOLUTION
==========
To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order in which they are
presented.
Check Speakers and Volume
-------------------------
Make sure that you plug in your speakers securely and turn up the volume in
Microsoft Windows.
Turn Up the Sound Volume in the Game
------------------------------------
To turn up the sound volume in the game:
1. Start Midtown Madness 2.
2. On the main start screen, click Options.
3. Click Audio.
4. Click to select the Sound FX, Play Commentary, Play Music, and City Sounds
check boxes.
NOTE: If you experience issues in the game after you enable any of these audio
features, your sound card may not support that audio feature. You can turn
off the audio feature or use the methods in this article to attempt to
resolve the issue.
5. Make sure that you move the Sound FX Volume and the Music/City Volume sliders
to full.
6. Click Done.
7. Click Back.
Configure the Sound Quality Settings in the Game
------------------------------------------------
To configure the sound quality settings in the game:
1. Start Midtown Madness 2.
2. On the main start screen, click Options.
3. Click Audio.
4. In the Stereo FX box, click Mono.
5. In the Sound Quality box, click Low.
6. Click Done.
7. Click Back.
Change the Audio Device
-----------------------
To change the audio device:
1. Start Midtown Madness 2.
2. On the main start screen, click Options.
3. Click Audio.
4. In the Device box, click Primary Sound Driver.
If this setting is already selected, try any other setting that is available.
5. Click Done.
6. Click Back.
Update Your Sound Card Driver

To update your sound card driver, contact the manufacturer of your sound card to
inquire about how to obtain and install the latest version of the sound driver
for your sound card.

Turn Off Hardware Sound Acceleration

To turn off hardware sound acceleration:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks), and then click
OK.
3. Click the Sound tab.
4. Under DirectX Features, move the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level slider all
the way to the left (the "No acceleration" setting).
5. Click Exit.
