SYMPTOMS
========

When you run one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, you
may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

- Sounds in the game may not be played.

- Sound playback may be distorted or scratchy.

- Sound playback may skip or stutter.

- You may receive an error message similar to the following:

  MMSYSTEM326 No wave device that can play files in the current format is
  installed.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior can occur if the sound driver for your sound card is outdated.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, contact the your sound card manufacturer to inquire about
how to obtain and install the latest version of the sound driver for your sound
card.
