This article describes how to use the repair feature that is included with the
programs listed at the beginning of this article.

The repair feature can resolve many Microsoft Encarta installation issues.

If you are experiencing problems with Encarta, Microsoft recommends that you
attempt to use the repair feature before you uninstall and reinstall the Encarta
program.

To use the repair feature:

1. Close all programs that are running on your computer. To do this, follow
  these steps.

  a. Close all running programs that show up in your taskbar.

  b. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE. This will open the Close Program window.

  c. Highlight each program that needs to be closed.

  d. Click End Task to close every task except Explorer and Systray (which are
     components of Windows 95/98/ME).

  e. Repeat steps b-c until all unnecessary tasks have closed.

2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

4. Click the Microsoft Encarta program that you want to repair, and then click
  Add/Remove.

5. Click Next.

6. Click Repair, and then click Next.

7. Click Install.

8. Follow the instructions on the screen, and then restart the computer.
