SYMPTOMS
========

If you attempt to open a Microsoft MapPoint 2001/2002 or a Microsoft Streets and
Trips 2001/2002 file that is stored in the Briefcase, you may receive an error
message similar to the following

  <#-#####-##########>

where <#-#####-##########> represents a random string of numbers.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:

- You transfer the file between the Microsoft Windows desktop and a laptop
  computer by using the Briefcase.

- You attempt to open the file by double-clicking the file from inside the
  Briefcase.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:

- Copy or move the file from the Briefcase to the Windows desktop or another
  folder and then double-click the file to open it.

- Start MapPoint 2001/2002 or Streets and Trips 2001/2002 on the desktop or
  laptop computer, and then click Open on the File menu within the program to
  open the file that is stored in the Briefcase.
