SYMPTOMS
========
Remote Access Service (RAS) direct cable connections that use a serial port null
modem cable always use 1 stop bit, regardless of the Modem settings in Control
Panel.
RESOLUTION
==========
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems
that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor
incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

computers that are experiencing this specific problem.

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe), and then view the following key in the
registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Rasman\Parameters
2. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value Name: StopBits
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value: Number of Stop Bits
3. Quit Registry Editor.
