SYMPTOMS
========

When you use the Microsoft SideWinder Precision Racing Wheel to drive in
Microsoft Midtown Madness or Microsoft Midtown Madness 2, you may experience any
of the following symptoms:

- The accelerator may not work.

- Your vehicle's transmission may be stuck in reverse.

- You may need to press both foot pedals to accelerate or to brake.

- The pedels are reversed. The pedal action is reversed. The wheel wants to
  turn sharp left.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior can occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

- A SideWinder Precision Racing Wheel scheme is selected in the SideWinder Game
  Controller software.

- The control settings for the SideWinder Precision Racing Wheel are improperly
  configured in the game.

- The latest version of DirectX is not installed on the computer.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order in which they are
presented.

Turn Off All Schemes in the SideWinder Game Controller Software
---------------------------------------------------------------

To turn off all schemes in the SideWinder game controller software:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Game Controllers.

3. Make sure that Microsoft SideWinder Precision Racing Wheel appears under
  Controller in the Game Controllers box, and that the value under Status is
  OK.

4. Click Microsoft SideWinder Precision Racing Wheel, and then click Properties.

5. On the Schemes tab, click to clear the "Enable all schemes for SideWinder
  software 4.0" check box.

6. Click OK, and then click OK again.

7. Close Control Panel.

If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method.

Reset the Default Precision Wheel Control Settings in Midtown Madness
---------------------------------------------------------------------

To reset the default precision wheel control settings in Midtown Madness:

1. On the Midtown Madness startup screen, click Options.

2. On the Options screen, click Control Options.

3. In the Controllers box, click Steering Wheel, and then click Defaults.

  NOTE: By default, Midtown Madness only assigns actions to buttons 1 and 2 on a
  steering wheel game controller. To assign actions to other buttons on the
  controller, click the action in the Key Function list, and then press the
  controller button that you want to use for that action.

4. Click Done.

If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method.
