SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to use the GPS features in Microsoft Streets and Trips 2001 or
Microsoft MapPoint 2001, you may be unable to use or configure your GPS device.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior can occur if you have not installed the GPS components.

RESOLUTION
==========

To install the GPS components, use the following methods in the order in which
they are presented.

Install Your GPS Receiver
-------------------------

1. Insert the Streets and Trips 2001 or the MapPoint 2001 Setup CD-ROM into the
  CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key as you insert the CD-ROM to
  prevent Setup from starting automatically.

2. Double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.

3. Right-click the CD-ROM drive that contains the Setup CD-ROM, and then click
  Install GPS.

4. Follow the steps in the Installation Wizard to install your GPS receiver.

Configure Your GPS Receiver
---------------------------

1. On the Tools menu in Streets and Trips 2001 or in MapPoint 2001, point to
  GPS, and then click Configure GPS Receiver.

2. Select an available communications (COM) port from the list, and then click
  Next.

3. Click OK.
