SYMPTOMS
========

You have remote mail and offline usage set up in Outlook 98 and you are using
Remote Access Service (RAS) to connect to the Exchange Server computer. You
establish the RAS connection before Outlook 98 is started. You try to connect to
the Exchange Server computer using remote mail and you receive the following
error message:

  Could not download message headers. The Microsoft Exchange server computer is
  not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange Server
  computer is down for maintenance.

RESOLUTION
==========

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to
correct the problem described in this article and should be applied only to
systems experiencing this specific problem.

WORKAROUND
==========

To work around this problem, in Outlook, click Synchronize, and then click All
Folders on the Tools menu instead of connecting to remote mail under the Tools
menu.
