SYMPTOMS
========

After you install a CardBus card and a PC Card in a CardBus-based laptop
computer, your computer may intermittently stop responding (hang) when you
restart it.

Additionally, Windows may eventually display a "VFAT device initialization" error
message.

This problem typically first occurs during the second restart after you install
the cards.

RESOLUTION
==========

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to
correct the problem described in this article and should be applied only to
systems experiencing this specific problem.

WORKAROUND
==========

Note that disabling the COM port in the computer's BIOS settings may allow you
to work around the problem until you can apply the update.
