SYMPTOMS
========

When you play a scenario in a campaign in Microsoft Age of Empires II: The Age
of Kings, you may receive the following message even if your civilization has
not been defeated:

  You have been defeated!

The scenario then ends, and the Score tab on the Achievements screen is
displayed.

NOTE: This behavior is normal if you are actually defeated.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue install the latest Microsoft Age of Empires II: Age of
Kings update. Microsoft Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings 2.0a Update,
includes performance enhancements for the game.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Age of Empires II: The
Age of Kings, version 2.0.

MORE INFORMATION
================

You may be able to work around this issue by starting and cancelling a Death
Match game. To do this:

1. On the Achievements screen, click Scenario Menu.

2. Click Campaign Menu.

3. Click Main Menu.

4. Click Death Match.

5. Click Cancel.

Start the campaign scenario that you want to play.

NOTE: If this issue occurs in the William Wallace Learning Campaign, the
Achievements screen is not displayed. If this is the case, start the previous
method at step 3.

If the issue continues to occur, quit and then restart Age of Empires II.
