SYMPTOMS
========

The WINS server reports the following Event ID 4224 error in the Event Log and
Replication ceases.

  Event ID 4224
  Source: WINS
  WINS encountered a database error. This may or may not be a serious error.
  WINS will try to recover from it. If you continue to see a large number of
  these errors consistently over time (a span of few hours), you may want to
  restore the database from a backup. The error number is in the second DWORD
  of the data section below.

Windows NT Server or Workstation 4.0

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or the
individual software update. For information on obtaining the latest service

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT
Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition.

This problem was first corrected in Windows NT Server 4.0 Service Pack 6 and
Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 6.

MORE INFORMATION
================

This problem has only been seen in very large environments (200,000 records or
greater). The error message can be triggered by scheduled or manual replication.
Rebuilding replication partners and performing a jetpack compaction process does
temporarily resolve the issue, but the errors return.
