This article describes how to install Microsoft Encarta World Atlas 2000 to run
the program from your hard disk.

To install Microsoft Encarta World Atlas 2000 to run the program from your hard
disk, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented.

If Encarta World Atlas 2000 is already installed to run from the Atlas Disc
CD-ROM, you must first remove the program from your computer.

Remove Encarta World Atlas 2000
-------------------------------

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

3. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Encarta World Atlas 2000,
  and then click Add/Remove.

4. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Encarta World Atlas 2000.

5. Close Control Panel.

Install Encarta World Atlas 2000 to Run from Your Hard Disk
-----------------------------------------------------------

1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop, and then click Explore.

2. Double-click the hard disk from which you want to run Encarta World Atlas
  2000.

3. Double-click the Program Files folder.

4. If you see the Microsoft Encarta folder, proceed to step five. Otherwise,
  follow these steps:

  a. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.

  b. Right-click the New Folder folder, and then click Rename.

  c. Type "Microsoft Encarta" (without the quotation marks), and then press
     ENTER.

5. Double-click the Microsoft Encarta folder.

6. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.

7. Right-click the New Folder folder, and then click Rename.

8. Type "Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2000" (without the quotation marks),
  and then press ENTER.

9. Insert the Atlas Disc CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the
  SHIFT key when you insert the CD-ROM to prevent Encarta World Atlas 2000
  Setup from starting automatically.

10. Drag the entire contents of the Atlas Disc CD-ROM to the Encarta Interactive
  World Atlas 2000 folder on your hard disk.

11. Remove the Atlas Disc CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive.

12. Insert the Encarta World Atlas 2000 Installation and Resources CD-ROM into
  your CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the
  CD-ROM to prevent Encarta World Atlas 2000 Setup from starting
  automatically.

13. Drag the entire contents of the Installation and Resources CD-ROM to the
  Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2000 folder on your hard disk.

14. Click Start, and then click Run.

15. In the Open box, type the following line

  "<drive>:\Program Files\Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2000\Setup.exe"
  (without the quotation marks)

  where <drive> is the drive letter of your hard disk.

16. Follow the instructions on the screen until the installation of Encarta
  World Atlas 2000 is complete.
