MORE INFORMATION
================
Both the Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 and the Encarta Reference Suite 2000
Installation and Resources CD-ROM contain a set of registry keys you can use to
determine whether any problems that occur when you use Encarta are related to
outdated sound card or video adapter drivers.
These registry keys disable the startup sounds, the user interface sounds, and
the enhanced display options in Encarta Encyclopedia 2000.
To use these registry keys to troubleshoot problems in Encarta 2000:
1. Insert the Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 or the Encarta Reference Suite
Installation and Resources CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Press
and hold down the SHIFT key as you insert the CD-ROM to prevent Encarta
Encyclopedia or Encarta Reference Suite Setup from starting automatically.
2. Double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
3. Right-click the CD-ROM drive icon, and then click Explore.
4. Double-click the Support folder.
5. Double-click the Regfiles folder.
6. Double-click the Ee folder.
7. Double-click the Eesndoff.reg file, and then click OK.
8. Start Encarta Encyclopedia 2000.
9. If the problems no longer occur, contact the manufacturer of your sound card
to inquire about obtaining an updated sound driver for the sound card.
If the problems continue to occur, continue to the next step.
10. Quit Encarta Encyclopedia 2000.
11. In Windows Explorer, double-click the Eesndon.reg file, and then click OK.
12. In Windows Explorer, double-click the Eevwoff.reg file, and then click OK.
13. Start Encarta Encyclopedia 2000.
14. If the problems no longer occur, contact the manufacturer of your video
adapter to inquire about obtaining an updated video driver for the video
adapter.
If the problems continue to occur, continue to the next step.
15. Quit Encarta Encyclopedia 2000.
16. In Windows Explorer, double-click the Eesndoff.reg file, and then click OK.
17. Start Encarta Encyclopedia 2000.
18. If the problems no longer occur, contact both the manufacturer of your sound
card and the manufacturer of your video adapter to inquire about obtaining
updated drivers for your sound card and your video adapter.
If the problems continue to occur, they are most likely unrelated to your
sound card or display adapter drivers.
To restore the startup sounds, the user interface sounds, and the enhanced
display options in Encarta Encyclopedia 2000:
1. Double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
2. Right-click the CD-ROM drive icon, and then click Explore.
3. Double-click the Support folder.
4. Double-click the Regfiles folder.
5. Double-click the Ee folder.
6. Double-click the Eesndon.reg file, and then click OK.
7. Double-click the Eevwon.reg file, and then click OK.
