SUMMARY

To provide enhanced workstation security, network administrators may prevent the
display of the Shut Down button on the Logon Information window on specific
computers by modifying the Windows NT registry.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems
that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor
incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To enable this feature:

1. Click Start, click Run, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks), and
  then click OK.

2. Point to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder, click the Edit menu, click Find, type
  in "shutdownw" (without the quotation marks), and then click Find Next.

3. Double-click the ShutdownWithoutLogon value, type "1" (without the quotation
  marks), and then click OK.

4. Close the registry editor and restart the computer.
