SYMPTOMS
========

When you send messages using a Personal Distribution List to an invalid
recipient on a remote site, you receive a non-delivery report (NDR) showing the
intended recipient's X.500 Distinguished Name (DN) ID instead of the X.400
address.

A sample NDR showing this problem:

CAUSE
=====

The function call, EcDeliverReport, no longer returns the MH_T_DIRECTORY_NAME
attribute to the Exchange Server information store after the application of
Exchange Server 5.0 Service Pack 2 or Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 1.


RESOLUTION
==========

Exchange Server 5.0
-------------------

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to
correct the problem described in this article and should be applied only to
systems experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional
testing at a later time, to further ensure product quality. Therefore, if you
are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait
for the next that contains this fix.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server
version 5.0 Service Pack 2 and Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 Service
Pack 1. This problem was first corrected in Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 3.
