This article describes how to obtain content updates for Encarta 98 Encyclopedia
if your computer does not have a connection to the Internet.

To obtain content updates for Encarta 98 Encyclopedia, use a computer with an
Internet connection to download an Encarta yearbook update file onto a floppy
disk, and then copy the file from the floppy disk to your computer. To do this,
follow these steps:

1. On a computer that has an Internet connection, connect to the following MSN,
  The Microsoft Network, Web site:

  http://encarta.msn.com/downloads/downld98.asp

2. If you use Encarta 98 Deluxe, click Encarta 98 Deluxe 3-CD Edition. If you
  use Encarta 98 Standard, click Encarta 98 2-CD Edition.

3. Insert a blank, formatted floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.

4. Click the link for the yearbook update file you want, and then download and
  save the file to the floppy disk drive.

5. When the download is complete, eject the floppy disk. If you want to download
  more yearbook update files, repeat steps 3 - 5 for each file you want.

  NOTE: Each floppy disk can store only one yearbook update file.

6. On the computer you use to run Encarta 98, click Start, and then click Run.

7. In the Open box, type the following line (with quotation marks), and then
  click OK

     "<drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Reference\Encarta Encyclopedia"

  where <drive> is the letter of the hard disk on which Encarta 98 is
  installed.

8. Insert the floppy disk that contains the yearbook update file into the floppy
  disk drive.

9. Click Start, and then click Run.

10. In the Open box, type "<drive>:" (without the quotation marks), and
  then click OK, where <drive> is the letter of the floppy disk drive
  that contains the yearbook update file.

11. In the floppy disk drive window, right-click the yearbook update file, click
  Copy, and then close the floppy disk drive window.

12. In the Encarta Encyclopedia window, click Paste on the Edit menu.

13. When the copy process is complete, eject the floppy disk from the floppy
  disk drive. If you want to copy any additional yearbook update files, repeat
  steps 8-13.

14. Close the Encarta Encyclopedia window.

15. Start Encarta 98.

16. Click Online Features, and then click Downloads.

17. Click Troubleshoot, and then click Integrate.
