SYMPTOMS
========

When you install Microsoft Windows 98 on your computer and then attempt to
connect to MSN, you are prompted to upgrade your software for MSN, The Microsoft
Network. When the upgrade is finished and you double-click the MSN icon on the
desktop, the MSN Sign-In screen is not populated with your MSN Member ID,
password, or access numbers.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior occurs because the Connection Manager is not able to retrieve the
MSN account settings from previous MSN dialers.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, type your MSN account settings in the MSN Sign-In screen.
To do this, follow these steps:

1. In the User Name box, type your MSN Member ID.

2. In the Password box, type your MSN password.

  NOTE: If you do not remember your MSN password, click the New button next to
  the Password box and follow the instructions on the screen to request a new
  MSN password.

3. Click the Remember Password check box, and then click Settings.

4. On the Dialing tab, next to the Phone Number box, click Phone Book.

5. In the Country box, click the country you are located in.

6. In the State Or Region box, click the state or region you are located in.

7. In the Access Numbers box, click the appropriate access number for your area,
  and then click OK.

8. On the Dialing tab, next to the Backup Number box, click Phone Book.

9. Repeat steps 5-7 to select an appropriate backup access number for your area.

10. Click OK to return to the MSN Sign-In screen.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in The Microsoft Network version
2.52.
