1.0  Introduction

This release of Microsoft? Exchange Server 4.0 Service Pack 5 is easy to 
apply from within Microsoft Windows NT? and changes only previously installed 
Microsoft Exchange Server files.

Important: Service Pack 2 must already be installed on the server that you 
are updating before you can install Service Pack 5. 

2.0 Note for Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, and Korean Clients

If you have a Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, or Korean client 
installed on the same computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server, 
see Knowledge Base Article Q183065 before installing Microsoft Exchange 
Server 4.0 Service Pack 5. You can query the Microsoft Knowledge Base by 
visiting the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/support/.

3.0  Installation Instructions for Microsoft Exchange Server Service Pack 5

To install Service Pack 5 from compressed files:

1. Create two subdirectories, Setup and Support.

2. Download the compressed Setup file appropriate for your hardware 
platform into the Setup directory. Select the appropriate file as indicated 
in the following list:

		Alpha AXP		SP5_400A.EXE
		Intel			SP5_400I.EXE

3. Download the compressed support file appropriate for your hardware 
platform into the Support directory. Select the appropriate file as 
indicated in the following list:

		Alpha AXP		SP5S400A.EXE
		Intel			SP5S400I.EXE

4. At the Windows NT command prompt, switch to the Setup directory and 
type the file name (downloaded in step 2) followed by -d to ensure that 
the correct directories are created (for example, SP5_400A -d).  

5. At the Windows NT command prompt, switch to the Support directory and 
type the file name (downloaded in step 3) followed by -d to ensure that 
the correct directories are created (for example, SP5S400A -d).

6. Switch to the Setup directory, and then type update. Follow the 
instructions displayed on the screen.

4.0  List of Bugs Fixed in Microsoft Exchange Server Service Packs

All bug fixes included in Service Pack 5 are listed in Microsoft 
Knowledge Base article Q174189. You can query the Microsoft Knowledge
