SYMPTOMS
========

When you click the Devices tab in the Multimedia tool in Control Panel,
Multimedia Properties may close, and you may be unable to add, remove, or view
the properties of any multimedia device drivers.

CAUSE
=====

This issue can occur if Netscape Communicator Professional Edition is installed
on your computer, and the Nsmlaw32.dll file is incorrectly registered in your
registry.

RESOLUTION
==========

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that
problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use
Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And
Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete
Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in
Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.

To resolve this issue, use Registry Editor to delete the Nsmlaw32.dll value in
the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\currentVersion\ 
drivers.desc

Use Registry Editor to delete the Msacm.nsmlaw value in the following registry
key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\currentVersion\
Drivers32

MORE INFORMATION

These registry values are created only when Netscape Communicator Professional
Edition is installed in Microsoft Windows NT version 3.5 or 3.51. When you
upgrade Windows NT 3.5 or 3.51 to Windows NT 4.0, these registry values are
retained.
