This article describes how to connect to MSN, The Microsoft Network, from a
foreign country.

When you sign up for an MSN account, you specify your home country and area
code. If you travel to a different country, you need to change these settings.
To change country settings in MSN 1.x

1. Right-click the MSN or the Microsoft Network icon on the desktop, and then
click Connection Settings.
2. Click Access Numbers.
3. Click Change next to the Primary box.
4. In the Country box, click the country where you are dialing from.
5. In the State/Region box, click your state or region. This step may not be
necessary for some countries.
6. In the Access Numbers box, click the appropriate primary access number for
your location.
7. Click OK.
NOTE: To change your Backup access number, click Change next to the Backup box,
and then repeat steps 4-7. In the Access Numbers box, click an appropriate
backup access number for your location.
8. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
9. Click Modems and then on the General tab click Dialing Properties.
10. In the I Am Dialing From box, type a name for your location.
11. In the The Area Code Is box, type the area code of your location.
12. In the I Am In box, click the country where you are dialing from.
13. Click OK until you return to Windows.
14. Restart the computer.
To change country settings in MSN 2.x or 5.x

1. Right-click the MSN icon on the desktop, and then click Connection Settings.
2. On the Dialing tab or the General tab click Phone Book next to the first
access number.
3. Select the correct Country or Region from the list, and select the correct
State or Province from the list.
4. Select the appropriate primary access number for your location in the Access
Numbers box, and then click OK.
NOTE: To change your Backup access number, click Change next to the Backup box,
and then repeat these steps.
5. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
6. Click Modems and then on the General tab click Dialing Properties.
7. In the I Am Dialing From box, type a name for your location.
8. In the The Area Code Is box, type the area code of your location.
9. In the I Am In box, click the country where you are dialing from.
10. Click OK until you return to Windows.
11. Restart the computer.
These changes take effect the next time you connect to MSN. Please be aware that,
in some cases, MSN may not have a local access number for the country you are
dialing from. MSN accepts no responsibility for any long distance phone charges
that you may incur.
NOTE: When you connect to MSN from a country different than that from which you
originally signed up, you may be liable for roaming fees.
