SYMPTOMS

When you save a file in Microsoft Word 97 SR-1 as a Word 6.0 or Word 7.0
document, there are two different Word 6.0/95 converters listed in the Save As
Type box.
The two converters listed are:
- Word 6.0/95 (*.doc)
-and-
- Word 97 & 6.0/95 - RTF (*.doc)
CAUSE
=====
You have installed any of the following:
- Microsoft Office 97 Standard SR-1 Enterprise Update
-or-
- Microsoft Office 97 Professional SR-1 Enterprise Update
-or-
- Microsoft Word Service Release 1 Update (non-patch)

Word 6.0/95 (*.doc)

When you save your document using this file converter, it is saved in a binary
file format with a .doc extension. This binary file format is the same native
file format that both Word 6.0 and Word 95 (version 7.0) use.
NOTE: In the non-patched version of Word 97, this converter saves your file in
Rich Text Format (RTF).
