SYMPTOMS
========

When you mark index entries in a long document, either manually or with the
AutoMark feature, Word may appear to stop responding (hang). When you press
CTRL+ALT+DELETE, the Windows task list may indicate that Word is not
responding.

WORKAROUND
==========

To work around this problem, break your long document into separate smaller
documents, and then mark or AutoMark the index entries in each of the smaller
documents. After you have marked the index entries in the smaller documents, you
can combine the files back into one long document and then insert the index.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem Microsoft Word 97 for Windows.
