This article describes how to manually install Microsoft Cinemania 97 for the
Macintosh.

The installation instructions are separated into three parts. To manually
install Cinemania, work through the steps in the appropriate section:

- Installing Cinemania

- Installing Internet Config 1.2 (this is required for accessing links to the
  Internet from within the product

- Installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0.1

Installing Cinemania
--------------------

Use the following instructions to install Cinemania to your hard drive.

1. Create new folder and call it "Cinemania 97"

2. Insert the Cinemania 97 compact disc into the drive and make the CD-ROM
  window larger so you can see the following four items toward bottom of
  window:
   - Install Cinemania
   - Installer Files
   - Data
   - MediaMan

3. Drag MediaMan into the Cinemania 97 folder.

4. From the Installer Files folder, do the following:
  a. Drag the font files, Arial and MS Reference, to System folder icon. You
     are presented with a dialog box:

  Fonts need to be stored in the Fonts folder in order to be available to the
  Macintosh. Put these fonts into the Fonts folder?

     Click OK.

  b. Drag the following items from the System Files folder and drop them on the
     System Folder icon (do NOT place these items into the open System Folder
     window):
      - Sound
      - QuickTime
      - QuickTime PowerPlug (if you have a Power Macintosh)
      - Sound Manager

5. Open the System Folder, then open Preferences. Create a new folder in the
  Preferences folder called, "Cinemania Folder" (without the quotation marks).

6. Drag the following items in the List folder on CD to the new Cinemania Folder
  you created in step 5:
   - Cool
   - Ebert
   - Ebert95
   - Film
   - Maltin
   - Own
   - Rent

7. Restart your computer

Installing Internet Config 1.2
------------------------------

To access the World Wide Web links from within Cinemania, you must install
Internet Config. To install Internet Config, do the following:

1. Drag the folder on the Cinemania 97 CD, Internet Config 1.2, to your hard
  drive.

2. Open the folder and double-click the Internet Config application icon to
  run/install the program.

  You will receive a message about installing Internet Config. If the Utility
  has not been installed on your computer, click Install.

Installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0.1
--------------------------------------------

If you would like to use Internet Explorer as your Web browser, install the
browser to your hard drive.

NOTE: The version of Internet Explorer included on the Cinemania 97 CD-ROM is not
the most current version. To obtain the most recent version, please go to the
following location on the internet:

  http://www.microsoft.com/ie/default.asp

NOTE: You must have an Internet Service Provider (ISP) in order to utilize the
Internet.

To install the browser, do the following:

1. Drag the Internet Explorer 2.0 folder to your hard drive.

2. Double-click the application icon, "Internet Explorer 2.0 (PPC)" or "Internet
  Explorer 2.0 (68K)", depending on the type of computer you have.

  NOTE: To conserve disk space, you may throw away the version of the Internet
  Explorer application that you are not using (i.e., Internet Explorer 2.0
  (68K).

  You can obtain the latest version of Internet Explorer from:

  http://www.microsoft.com/ie/default.asp
