SYMPTOMS
========

Installing Visual Basic version 5.0 on a system running Windows 95 with the OEM
Service Release listed above may cause the following error message to be
displayed during the system restart:

  "Windows initializing device IOS: Windows protection error IOS failed to
  Initialize, Please restart"

RESOLUTION
==========

In many cases this error has been caused by driver problems. You should contact
your vendor to see if an updated driver is available to fix the problem.

It is also possible that the error is caused by the problem described in the
following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the
beginning of this article. This problem has been fixed in Microsoft Windows 98.
