SYMPTOMS
========

After you install Microsoft Plus! For Kids, you no longer have sound on your
computer.

CAUSE
=====

This problem occurs because of a conflict with the audio codecs installed in
Windows 95/98. If the "Netscape ACM wrapper for VOXWARE RT24 speech" audio codec
is installed on your computer, you may experience this kind of conflict.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this problem, disable or remove any audio codecs not listed below:

  Microsoft CCITT G.711 A-Law and U-Law CODEC
  Microsoft IMA ADPCM CODEC
  Microsoft ADPCM CODEC
  Microsoft GSM 6.10 Audio CODEC
  DSP Group TrueSpeech (TM) Software CODEC

  Microsoft PCM Converter

To disable an audio codec, do the following:

1. Click the Start button and point to Settings.

2. Click Control Panel.

3. Double-click Multimedia.

4. On the Advanced (Devices in Windows 98) tab, click the plus (+) sign next to
  Audio Compression Codecs to display a listing of installed audio codecs.

5. Select the audio codecs you wish to disable, and then click the Properties
  button.

6. Select the Do Not Use This Audio Codec option and click OK.

7. If you want to disable more audio codecs, repeat steps 5 and 6 above.

8. When you are finished, click OK to close the Multimedia Properties window.

You should be able to hear sound now.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Plus! For Kids version
1.0.
