SYMPTOMS
========

Some computers are equipped with power management features that place the
computer in a suspended power state after a certain period of inactivity. If the
Auto Insert Notification option is enabled for IDE CD-ROM drives on such a
computer, the computer may not be suspended automatically.

CAUSE
=====

Some IDE CD-ROM drives support a polling method that the power-management
components detect as drive activity. It seems that the drive is still in use,
preventing the computer from being suspended.

RESOLUTION
==========

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to
correct the problem described in this article and should be applied only to
systems experiencing this specific problem.

NOTE: In special cases, charges that are normally incurred for support calls may

Microsoft used the most current virus detection software available on the date of
posting to scan this file for viruses. After it is posted, the file is housed on
secure servers that prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

NOTE: The Voltrack.vxd file is installed on Windows 95 computers only. This file
is not installed on computers running OSR2.


This issue is resolved in Microsoft Windows 98.

You can work around this issue by disabling the Auto Insert Notification option

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products that are

command for polling for drive status as defined in Media Status Notification
Specification v.1.03.
