SYMPTOMS
========

Windows NT 4.0 may not detect certain PC Card modems installed in your computer
although they are listed in the Control Panel Modems applet. This problem may
occur with a variety of PC Card modems, including the ones listed below:

  Compaq 144 Data Fax Modem Series 570
  Compaq 288 Data Fax Modem Series 571
  P.N.B. PCMCIA Rio V34

CAUSE
=====

This problem is related to a timing issue in the PC Card modem detection code of
Windows NT 4.0, and may vary from controller to controller and from modem to
modem.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. This
problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT
version 4.0. For information on obtaining the Service Pack, query on the
