SYMPTOMS
========

When you use Microsoft Bookshelf '96-'97, you may be unable to play word
pronunciations even though all other sounds play properly.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior can occur for either of the following reasons:

- The option to enable spoken pronunciations may be turned off.

- The pronunciation playback files may be damaged.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, use the following methods:

Turn On the Enable Pronunciations Option
----------------------------------------

To turn on the Enable Pronunciations option, follow these steps:

1. On the Tools menu in Bookshelf '96-'97, click Options.

2. Click the Enable Pronunciations check box to select it, and then click OK.

If you are still unable to play word pronunciations, continue to the next
method.

Remove and Reinstall Bookshelf
------------------------------

To remove and reinstall Bookshelf, follow these steps:

1. Delete the Tv16dcmp.dll file from the Books96 folder on your hard disk.

  NOTE: If you use Windows 95 or Windows 98, delete the Tv32dcmp.dll file from
  the Program Files\Microsoft Reference\ Bookshelf 96 folder on your hard disk.

2. Reinstall Bookshelf. For detailed instructions about how to reinstall
  Bookshelf, consult the liner notes in the Bookshelf CD-ROM jewel case.
