SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to create a Note in Bookshelf, you receive the following
message:

  Cannot open Bookshelf Note File. File may be corrupt or missing.

CAUSE
=====

Bookshelf has been installed to the root of your hard drive.

RESOLUTION
==========

Reinstall Bookshelf to any other folder. To reinstall bookshelf, do the
following:

1. Run Bookshelf Setup. Setup starts in maintenance mode if Bookshelf is already
  installed.

2. Select the Remove All option and complete the Setup removal process to remove
  Bookshelf from your hard drive.

3. Run Bookshelf Setup, again. Allow Setup to select the default destination
  folder.

NOTE: If you click Change Folder or Change Directory during reinstallation of
Bookshelf, make sure you select a destination folder other than the root of your
hard drive.

MORE INFORMATION

To run Bookshelf Setup, do the following:

1. If you are using Explorer, click the Start button, and then click Run.

  -or-

  If you are using Program Manager, on File menu, click Run.

2. In the Run dialog box, type the following and then click OK:

  "d:\setup.exe" (without the quotation marks)

  where d is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.

3. Follow the Setup instructions.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Bookshelf '96-'97 for
Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in
the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
