SYMPTOMS
========

When you try to install the CD-ROM included with Bill Gates' book "The Road
Ahead," you may receive the following error message:

  Media Control Interface Error
  'avintro' MMSYSTEM 272 problem with the device driver. Check with the device
  manufacturer about obtaining a new driver.

CAUSE
=====

This error can occur if your video resolution is set to 16-bit color or higher.

Note that this problem occurs with only certain video drivers; with other drivers
the problem may not occur when you are using 16-bit color.

RESOLUTION
==========

To work around this problem, reduce your video resolution to 256 colors. To do
so, follow these steps:

1. In Control Panel, double-click the Display icon.

2. Click the Settings tab.

3. In the Color Palette box, click 256 Color.

4. Click OK.
