This article describes how to change an audio driver from within Microsoft
Windows 95.

CHANGING AN AUDIO DRIVER
------------------------

To change an audio driver in Windows 95, do the following.

NOTE: If you are unsure about what audio driver you have, see the instructions in
the "Redetecting and Installing Drivers" section at the bottom of this article.

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click System.

3. Click the Device Manager tab.

4. Double-click Sound, Video And Game Controllers, and then click the audio card
  installed from the list. Click Properties.

5. Click the Driver tab, then click Change Driver.

6. To select a compatible Windows 95 audio driver, make sure that Show
  Compatible Devices is selected. Select a driver from the list and click OK.

7. To choose a different audio driver, click Show All Devices. Select a driver
  from the list and click OK.

  NOTE: To install a manufacturer supplied driver, click the Have Disk option.
  From the Install From Disk dialog box, verify the path to the driver is
  correct. For example, if the driver is located on a floppy disk in drive A,
  click OK.

8. Close all dialog boxes, then close Control Panel.

9. Click the Start button, point to Shutdown. Make sure that Restart The
  Computer? is selected and click OK to initialize the newly installed driver.

REDETECTING AND INSTALLING DRIVERS
----------------------------------

To redetect and install your sound driver:

1. Follow steps 1 through 3 as described above.

2. Double-click Sound, Video And Game Controllers, and then click the audio card
  installed from the list.

3. Click Remove then click Close.

4. If you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.

5. Click the Start button, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.

6. Double-click the Add New Hardware icon, click Next, then click Next again.

7. When Windows 95 is finished detecting your hardware, click Finish.

8. Restart your computer when the Add New Hardware Wizard finishes.

MANUAL SELECTING/INSTALLING SOUND DRIVERS

Use these steps to manually add and configure your sound card driver in Windows
95:

1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Add New Hardware, and then click Next.

3. Click No and then click Next.

4. Double-click Sound, Video And Game Controllers, and then click the audio card
  installed from the list. Click Properties.

5. Click the Driver tab, then click Change Driver.

6. To select a compatible Windows 95 audio driver, make sure that Show
  Compatible Devices is selected. Select a driver from the list and click OK.

7. To choose a different audio driver, click Show All Devices. Select a driver
  from the list and click OK.
