SUMMARY
=======
This article provides instructions to manually set up Microsoft Complete
Baseball for Windows.
This installation is equivalent to the Fast setup option, which requires 6
megabytes (MB) of disk space and provides the fastest performance.
These instructions assume:
- Your hard disk drive is drive C.
- Your destination folder (directory) is C:\Baseball
- Your Windows folder is C:\Windows
- Your CD-ROM drive is drive D.
If your hard disk drive, destination folder, Windows folder, and/or CD-ROM drive
letters and directories are different, replace the drive letters and folder
names throughout this article with the drive letters and folder names on your
computer.
NOTE: The following manual installation instructions discuss copying, editing,
and modifying directories and files. For more information about accomplishing
these tasks in Windows, see your Windows printed documentation or online Help.
MORE INFORMATION

1. Create a directory named Baseball and a subdirectory named Baseball\Daily on
drive C. For example, from the MS-DOS command prompt on drive C, type the
following and press ENTER:
"MD C:\BASEBALL" (without the quotation marks)
Then type the following at the MS-DOS command prompt and press ENTER:
"MD C:\BASEBALL\DAILY" (without the quotation marks)
2. Copy all the files from the D:\App directory on your Baseball 1994 compact
disc to the C:\Baseball directory on your hard disk.
3. Copy the following files into the C:\Baseball directory:
D:\Readme.ico
D:\Readme.txt
D:\Baggage\Text.m11
D:\Aamsstp\Baseball.stf
4. Copy all the files from the D:\Daily directory on your Baseball 1994 CD to
the C:\Baseball\Daily subdirectory.
5. Without Windows running, perform the following steps at the MS-DOS command
prompt. Allow MS-DOS to overwrite any files it finds already on your hard
disk drive:
NOTE: If you are using Windows 95 and get a message stating that the file you
are trying to copy to the system is older than the one on the system, do not
let Windows change it.
a. Copy all the files from the D:\Zzsystem directory on your Baseball 1994 CD
to the C:\Windows\System directory.
b. Copy all the files from the D:\Viewer directory on your Baseball 1994
compact disc to the C:\Windows\System directory.
c. Copy the following files from the D:\Zzmmcat directory on your Baseball
1994 compact disc to the C:\Windows\System directory:
Catstub.exe
Picclip.vbx
Spush.vbx
Vbrun300.dll
d. Remove the read-only attribute from all the files in the C:\Baseball and
the C:\Baseball\Daily directories.
Changes to the Win.ini File
---------------------------
Use a text editor such as Windows Notepad or WordPad to make the following
changes to the Win.ini file, which is located in the Windows directory:
1. Find the [mci extensions] section in the file and add the following line if
it is not already present:
"AVI=AVIVideo" (without the quotation marks)
2. Change or create the section labeled [Microsoft Multimedia Catalog] and add
the following three lines to the section:
CatalogNum=1
Path=D:\zzmmcat\
ParentCD=Microsoft Complete Baseball
Changes to the System.ini File
------------------------------
Use a text editor to make the following changes to the System.ini file, which is
located in the Windows directory:
1. Find the [Drivers] section in the file and add or modify the following
lines:
WaveMapper=msacm.drv MSACM.msadpcm=msadpcm.acm MSACM.imaadpcm=imaadpcm.acm
VIDC.MSVC=msvidc.drv VIDC.RT21=indeov.drv VIDC.CVID=iccvid.drv
VIDC.IV31=indeov.drv VIDC.MRLE=msrle.drv VIDC.YVU9=indeov.drv
2. Find the [mci] section in the file and add the following line if it is not
already present:
"AVIVideo=mciavi.drv" (without the quotation marks)
3. Find the [386Enh] section and add the following line if it is not already
present:
"device=vshare.386" (without the quotation marks)
Verify that Vshare.386 is located in the \Windows\System subdirectory. If
Vshare.386 isn't located in that directory, copy it from the \Zzsystem
directory on the Complete Baseball disc.
Changes to the Control.ini File
-------------------------------
Use a text editor to make the following changes to the Control.ini file, which is
located in the Windows directory:
Find the [drivers.desc] section in the file and add or modify the following
lines:
"msacm.drv=Microsoft Sound Mapper V2.00 msadpcm.acm=Microsoft ADPCM Codec
V2.00 imaadpcm.acm=Microsoft IMA ADPCM Codec V2.00" (without the quotation
marks)
Create the Baseball.ini File
----------------------------
Use a text editor to create the Baseball.ini file with the following entries:

idxpath=C:\BASEBALL\
cd=D:\
workpath=C:\BASEBALL\
viewerpath=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\
rlefix=0
[sound]
installed=1
fxsounds=1
music=1
random=1
button=1
Save the Baseball.ini file in the Windows directory.
Create the Mssports.ini File
----------------------------
Use a text editor to create the Mssports.ini file with the following entries:
[baseball]
Key=<special characters>
Path=C:\BASEBALL\DAILY
[online]
ViewerPath=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\
NOTE: To insert the <special characters> after Key=, do the following: With
the NUMLOCK key turned on, place the cursor to the right of the Key= entry.
Press and hold down the ALT key while you type the numeric keypad numbers shown
below. Be sure to release the ALT key after typing each sequence of numbers:

ALT+0184
ALT+0187
ALT+0182
ALT+0180
ALT+0180
ALT+0182
ALT+0182
Save the Mssports.ini file in the Windows directory.
Windows 3.x, Creating the Baseball Icons in Program Manager
-----------------------------------------------------------
If you use the Windows Program Manager, use the steps below to create the
Baseball icons:
1. In Program Manager, create a new group called "Microsoft Multimedia" if there
is not one there already.
a. On the File menu, click New, and then select Program Group. Click OK.
b. In the Description field of the Program Group dialog box, type the
following and click OK.
"Microsoft Multimedia" (without the quotation marks)
2. Create the following three items in the Microsoft Multimedia group. To create
an item, do the following:
a. On the File menu in Program Manager, click New.
b. Click Program Item, and then click OK.
c. Copy the information below into the fields of the Program Item Properties
dialog box, then click OK

Command Line: C:\BASEBALL\BASEBALL.EXE

Description: Complete Baseball Info
Command Line: notepad.exe C:\BASEBALL\README.TXT

NOTE: You must choose Change Icon to select the icon file above.

NOTE: If the Multimedia Catalog icon is already in the group, you can just
modify that icon.
Windows 95, Creating Start Menu Shortcuts
-----------------------------------------
If you are using Windows 95, use the following instructions to add Baseball to
the Start Menu:
1. With your right mouse button, click the Taskbar, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Start Menu Programs tab, and then click Advanced.
3. Double-click the Programs folder
4. Add a Microsoft Multimedia folder, if it does not already exist:
a. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.
b. Type the following and then press ENTER:
"Microsoft Multimedia" (without the quotation marks)
5. Double-click the Microsoft Multimedia folder.
6. Add a shortcut icon for each item listed below.
a. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Shortcut.
b. Type the information for the Command Line, then click Next.
c. Type the information for the Name, then click Finish

7. If an Icon File Name is listed for the item, do the following to change the
icon that appears in the Start Menu:
a. With your right mouse button, click the shortcut, and then click
Properties.
b. Click the Shortcut tab, and then click Change Icon
c. Click Change Icon, and then type the information for the File Name.
d. Click OK, and then click OK to finish.
Restarting Windows
------------------
Exit or Shut Down Windows and restart the computer. The installation is complete.
