SYMPTOMS
========

The Microsoft Mail Postoffice Diagnostics Utility (PODIAG.EXE) Address &
Group Check displays a "GAL Missing" error message when the utility is run on a
version 2.1 postoffice. In addition, the Address & Group Preferences dialog
box displays "PO addresses, PO groups, and GAL" as an option under the Depth of
Check section, regardless of the version of the postoffice.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in version 3.2 of the Microsoft
Mail Postoffice Diagnostics Utility. We are researching this problem and will
post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
available.

================

The Global Address List (GAL) was an additional feature added in version 3.0 and
later postoffices and did not exist in Microsoft Mail version 2.1.
