SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to set up Windows NT 3.1 on a SCSI hard disk drive chained off
of an Adaptec 1740/1742 SCSI host adapter, you may receive the following error
message:

  Disk I/O Error Status=00008000

This error message occurs after the following message is displayed:

  NTDETECT Version 1.0 Checking Hardware...

NOTE: This problem may also occur when you use an Adaptec 2740 SCSI host adapter.

STATUS
======

According to Adaptec, you must upgrade the BIOS to version 1.4. To order this
BIOS revision, call Adaptec Product Fulfillment at (800) 442-7274.
