SYMPTOMS
========
When you attempt to play a MIDI music clip in one of the programs listed at the
top of this article, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
- You receive one of the following error messages:
Audio Failed: MIDI file does not exist or is invalid
No MIDI device available
- The cursor flashes for a moment and the program does not play the MIDI music
clip.
CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the [MCI] MIDI Sequencer driver is missing, disabled,
or damaged.

version of Microsoft Windows:
Installing MIDI Sequencer in Windows 98
---------------------------------------
To install the MIDI Sequencer device in Microsoft Windows 98, follow these
steps:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add New Hardware, and then click Next.
3. When you are prompted to search for plug and play devices, click Next.
4. When you are prompted to search for new hardware devices, click No, and then
click Next.
5. Under Hardware Types, click Sound, Video And Game Controllers, and then click
Next.
6. Under Manufacturers, click Microsoft MCI.
7. Under Models, click MIDI Sequencer Device (Media Control), and then click
Next.
8. Click Finish.
9. Follow the directions on the screen to finish installing the MIDI Sequencer
device.
Enabling MIDI Sequencer in Windows 98
-------------------------------------
To enable the MIDI Sequencer Device in Windows 98, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Multimedia.
3. On the Devices tab, double-click Media Control Devices.
4. Click MIDI Sequencer Device, and then click Properties.
5. Click Use This Media Control Device, and then click OK.
6. Click OK.

To install the MIDI Sequencer device in Microsoft Windows 95, follow these
steps:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
